The grandmother, Sofia, had a on-and-off feud with another local wise woman, Marta, for several years. They were best friends when they were children, but as they grew into young women they fell in love with the same man. Ana is 14 years old. She is the middle daughter of the glassblower. She has a older and younger sister.
The lady's maid would have attended to the needs of the Baroness, assisting her with dressing, grooming, and other personal tasks. The lady's maid might have also served as a companion and confidante to the Baroness, accompanying her on outings and social engagements.
